Adobe has acquired Rilo, an Indian AI startup focused on workflow automation, as the software company looks to strengthen its position in AI powered marketing and customer experience. The financial terms were not disclosed.
Founded in 2025 by IIT Bombay alumni Dhruv Jaglan and Georgi Boby, Rilo developed AI agents that could build and execute complex workflows using natural language. The platform was designed for marketing and go to market teams, supporting activities such as competitor intelligence, prospecting, content distribution, campaign research and sales call analysis.
The acquisition comes as businesses increasingly look for marketing systems that can move beyond generating content and actively complete tasks. Therefore, Adobe’s move reflects a wider shift toward agentic AI within the MarTech ecosystem.
Rilo brings AI workflow automation to Adobe
Rilo’s technology was built around a straightforward idea. Users could describe what they wanted to accomplish in natural language, while AI agents handled the workflow required to achieve the outcome.
Consequently, marketers could automate complex activities without having to manually design every individual step. The platform supported workflows involving research, competitive intelligence, social outreach, content and sales operations.
Rilo reportedly attracted more than 10,000 users within months of launching and raised approximately $1 million from investors including Peak XV Partners, DeVC and Day Zero Ventures.
For Adobe, this technology could complement its broader portfolio of marketing and customer experience solutions.
Agentic AI is reshaping marketing technology
Marketing automation has traditionally focused on scheduled campaigns, customer segmentation and repetitive workflows. However, agentic AI introduces a more active model in which AI systems can reason through tasks, interact with tools and execute multi step processes.
This distinction is important because marketers increasingly need to manage large volumes of customer data and campaign activity across multiple channels. As a result, AI agents could help teams move from manual campaign management toward more autonomous marketing operations.
Adobe’s acquisition of Rilo therefore fits into a broader industry movement in which technology companies are building systems capable of supporting complete marketing workflows rather than isolated tasks.
Modern customer experience depends on how effectively brands understand and respond to customer needs. Data, content, automation and personalization must work together to create relevant interactions.
Rilo’s workflow capabilities could potentially strengthen this connection by helping teams gather market intelligence and act on insights more efficiently. Moreover, Adobe already has a significant presence in customer experience and marketing technology, giving the acquired technology a much larger enterprise environment in which to operate.
This could support stronger Customer experience strategies as businesses look for faster ways to understand audiences and respond to changing behavior.
Data driven marketing is becoming increasingly complex. Marketers now work with customer behavior, campaign performance, audience signals, competitive information and content analytics across numerous platforms.
However, having access to data does not automatically create better decisions. Teams also need systems that can interpret information and turn insights into action.
That is where AI workflow automation can become valuable. Instead of requiring marketers to manually collect information, analyze it and initiate follow up tasks, intelligent agents can potentially connect these stages into a more continuous process.
Therefore, Adobe’s Rilo acquisition could strengthen the connection between marketing intelligence and execution.
The competitive environment around marketing technology is changing quickly. Adobe faces pressure from established platforms as well as emerging AI companies developing specialized tools for marketers.
Meanwhile, businesses are becoming more comfortable using AI for content creation, campaign research, customer analysis and workflow management. Marketing teams increasingly expect technology to deliver measurable improvements in speed and productivity.
Adobe has already been expanding its AI capabilities across its ecosystem. The company also announced Adobe CX Enterprise in April as an end to end agentic AI system focused on the customer lifecycle.
In this context, acquiring Rilo gives Adobe another opportunity to strengthen its AI driven marketing infrastructure.
Digital marketing innovations are also changing how brands communicate with customers. Generative AI can accelerate content production, while automation can help distribute and optimize campaigns across channels.
At the same time, marketers need to ensure that automation does not make customer interactions feel generic. Brand engagement strategies still depend on relevance, creativity and a clear understanding of audience expectations.
Consequently, the most effective AI marketing systems are likely to combine automation with human oversight. AI can handle repetitive and data intensive work, while marketers remain responsible for creative direction, brand voice and strategic decisions.
The Rilo acquisition demonstrates that marketing automation is moving toward outcome based workflows. Rather than simply automating individual actions, the next generation of platforms may allow marketers to describe business objectives and let AI coordinate the required processes.
For example, a marketer could potentially request competitive research, identify relevant prospects, analyze market signals and prepare campaign recommendations through connected AI workflows.
Similarly, organizations could use these capabilities to improve campaign speed while allowing marketing professionals to spend more time on strategy and creative work.
The Adobe acquisition of Rilo provides another indication that agentic AI is becoming an important part of the future MarTech ecosystem. Rilo’s standalone product is being wound down as the team and technology transition to Adobe.
Looking ahead, marketers should pay close attention to how AI agents become integrated with customer data, campaign management, analytics and creative platforms. The biggest opportunity will not simply be automation. Instead, it will be the ability to connect intelligence with action while maintaining transparency, security and human oversight.
The broader lesson is clear. Marketing technology is moving from tools that assist individual tasks toward intelligent systems capable of coordinating complete workflows. Adobe’s acquisition of Rilo shows how quickly this transition is developing and why AI capabilities will increasingly influence marketing strategy, customer experience and business growth.
Marketing leaders should evaluate AI platforms based on the business outcomes they can support rather than focusing only on individual features. Strong data foundations, clear governance and meaningful human oversight will remain essential as automation becomes more autonomous.
Moreover, marketers should look for opportunities where AI can reduce repetitive work while preserving human creativity and strategic judgment. This balance can help organizations gain efficiency without sacrificing authentic customer relationships.
